Winter Fun: Letter- K Number- 16
Announcements: : We are going to have music therapy students from Utah State come once a week again. This time we have just one and she will be coming to the Wednesday 3-4 year old class. I will have her write a little biography for you and send it so you can know a little more about her.
Thanks for all those that sent me phone numbers. I will make phone number cards this week so if you can just shoot me an e-mail if you haven’t already the phone number you want your child to practice that would be great. If I don’t hear from you I will just choose one of the numbers I have on file.
The 4-5 year old classes will be going to the USU Anthropology museum on the 29th of January. I have a parent who has volunteered to come with the morning class (Brooke Snow) but I don’t have any signed up for the afternoon class. If you are able, I would love your help. It’s always a fun field trip for the kids.
Winter Fun: This week we will be talking about all the fun things winter brings, we will discuss signs of the season. Be sure your child is bringing a warm enough coat, hat, mittens for outside play. It’s important to get those wiggles out for at least 10 minutes.
Monday-Wednesday–Craft: Snowflakes
Snack: Fresh Apples
Math: We will start learning phone numbers today-I have a lot of old cell phones for them to practice on. They think it’s pretty cool to “call mommy!”
Thursday–Craft: Shaving Cream Snowmen (this craft I’ll take pictures of but it can’t really be taken home. =) )
Snack: Cereal Trail Mix
Homework: For those of you who have students who will be starting Kindergarten this year it’s time to be getting ready for registration. Have you considered visiting your local public elementary and finding out when registration is, what requirements there are to register. Are you up to date on your child’s vaccinations? These are things to think about now. When I was going to register my first child into school, I knew there was a charter school not too far from my house and decided I would just visit it to see what it was all about and then compare it to the public school. I had no intention of sending my son there but after visiting both schools, my husband and I agreed this was the school that would be best for our family. I am so grateful that I took the time to do this. In this valley there are a lot of options for elementary school so check them out. We really have an advantage when there is more then one choice. Here is the schools that I know about. There may be more I don’t know so start asking around and choose the school that you know will help your child succeed and one you feel good about.
Public school kindergarten is usually in March. I couldn’t find any specifics online so you may want to start with the school to get more information. http://www.ccsdut.org/index.cfm
Thomas Edison Charter School-There is one in Nibley and one in North Logan. Kindergarten is selected by lottery and they hold their lottery January 20th. They require you to visit the school and observe two classrooms so you have an idea of the teaching philosophy. They also have you view a short video before you can register. The school is public so there is no tuition fee. We have loved our experience at this school. http://www.thomasedisoncharterschool.org/north-campus/
Edith Bowen Lab School is up on USU campus. This is also a public charter school with no tuition. This school has many hands on learning experiences. For information on admission visit: http://edithbowen.usu.edu/htm/admissions
Bear River Charter School: located at 75 S 400 W. This school is small and has small class sizes. They only take 20 students per grade. The school teaches K-8th grade. Enrollment is done by lottery and that takes place Feb. 11 2012 so you may want to check into this soon if you are interested. http://www.brcs-logan.org/
I will be starting preschool registration for the 2014-2015 school year on February 1st. I wanted to give my preschool families first picks. Also returning students get a discount of $5 a month. So here is the scoop. I will be keeping my teaching schedule the same as this year:
- Monday 3-4 year olds Once a week 9:30-11:30 am
- Tuesday & Thursday 4-5 year old 9:30-11:30 am
- Tuesday & Thursday 4-5 year old 12:30-2:30 am
- Wednesday 3-4 year old once a week 9:30-11:30 am
If you are interested in keeping your child at Music Train please print off a registration form from the blog and turn that in with the registration fee so I can hold a slot open for you. I will also have some registration forms printed off in my front entry way. If you do not need another t-shirt you only need to pay $25. Otherwise the registration fee is $35.
I will also continue to teach Play with Me Music on Friday mornings at the Smithfield Recreation Center for children ages 0-5 and their parents. I will leave my schedule open Monday, Wednesday and Friday Afternoons open for my private music therapy clients.
