Play with Me Week 7

We started a new batch of songs today!
One of the songs we learned today is Going on Bear Hunt! This is a echo or repeat after me song. I bought the book from the Book Table in Logan and I just love the pictures in the book. We paired each obstacle that the children had to go through with an instrument. If you don’t have instruments you can use your mouth, hands, feet, and other things to create the sounds you want to make for this song. This song really encourages the children to use their imagination as they imagine going through the forest, the water, snowstorm etc. The fun thing is you can make as many or as little verses as you want. You can have your older ones think of other obstacles you have to go through.

We’re going on a bear hunt!
We’re gonna catch a big one.
What a beautiful day
I’m not scared.

What’s that?
It’s tall grass
Can’t go over it
Can’t go under it,
What should we do?
“Let’s go through!”

Swoosh swoosh swoosh swoosh

We’re going on a bear hunt!
We’re gonna catch a big one.
What a beautiful day
I’m not scared.

What’s that?
It’s wide & windy & wet Is that a river?
“Yes, that’s a river!”
Can’t go over it
Can’t go under it,
What should we do?
“Let’s go through!”

Splish splash …

We’re going on a bear hunt!
We’re gonna catch a big one.
What a beautiful day
I’m not scared.

What’s that?
It’s deep & dark & damp Is that a cave?
“Yes, that’s a cave!”
Can’t go over it
Can’t go under it,
What should we do?
“Let’s go through!”

Tippy toe….

What’s that?
Feels like a nose, & is that an ear?
fur, a mouth Are those teeth?
Yikes! It’s a bear!

Tippy toe….
Splish splash …
Swoosh swoosh swoosh swoosh

Back into the house,
Shut the door
Lock it!
Whew!

The next point that music helps with is Self-Esteem!
Music helps develop children’s self-esteem: Music is a wonderful way to address the many needs of children because music is nonjudgmental. There is no right or wrong, it just is what it is. Listening to different types of music nurtures self-esteem and encourages creativity, self-confidence, and curiosity. I encourage you to try new music at home. Get out of your comfort zone a bit and listen to something new or sing something different then you normally do. You and your children will benefit from it!
